Studio Notes: The Evolution of Form
he interplay between painted surfaces and sculptural forms continues to fascinate me. My recent work explores the relationship between landscape and abstraction, as seen in these vertical pieces that combine bold reds and atmospheric blues. These new pieces will debut at the Spring Arts Festival in April, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exciting exhibition season. The dimensional paintings have evolved to incorporate more dynamic color transitions and bolder geometric elements..
Working in the quiet of winter has allowed me to push boundaries with my materials. The curved wood elements are taking on more complex configurations, as evidenced by the trio of blue pieces that seem to dance across the wall. Each piece begins with careful selection of the wood, considering both its natural grain and how it will accept the layers of paint that bring the final vision to life.
The color palette has expanded significantly, drawing inspiration from both urban landscapes and natural environments. In my latest series, you'll notice a bold red vertical piece that stands as a centerpiece, contrasting beautifully with the more atmospheric works surrounding it. This dialogue between bold statement pieces and their more contemplative companions will be a major theme in my upcoming exhibitions.
